ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hi, I'm Nailah.
I'm a self-taught multidisciplinary artist, designer, and founder of The Coping Nook.
As someone whose professional life exists largely in digital spaces, painting became a way for me to return to something slower, more intuitive, and deeply human. What began as a personal creative outlet evolved into a practice that helps me stay connected to myself in a world that constantly asks us to disconnect from our emotions, our bodies, and our inner lives.
Through abstract, non-representational painting, I explore the emotional and psychological landscapes of Black womanhood, vulnerability, ambition, self-discovery, and the many roles we carry throughout our lives. My work is often inspired by the tension between softness and survival, freedom and responsibility, and the ongoing process of becoming.
The Coping Nook was created as a space to honor humanity, emotional honesty, and creative freedom. Through color, texture, movement, and intuition, I create visual worlds that invite viewers to slow down, feel what they've been carrying, and reconnect with the parts of themselves that everyday life can make easy to overlook.
Based in Minnesota, my work has been exhibited in shows like Afrocentric Eclectic, The Technicolor Truth: Revolutionary Beauty, and featured at community-centered events, including Soul of the Southside.
