Moments In Joy #1, Nailah Ali, 2026
Part of A Mother’s Journey, Moments in Joy #1 is the first painting I created in the collection that explores the moments of joy that have grounded me throughout the more challenging parts of motherhood and life.
Admittedly, it has been like a game of butterfingers for me to be working in a space about finding and holding onto joy when my reality behind the canvas has been so rocky and uncertain. I almost feel like a hypocrite. A deceiver. However, it IS true, that I yearn to sustain a healthy level of joy within myself, even though it can be REALLY challenging. And these pieces are helping me do that.
I started working on this painting last year, if I remember correctly. Chipping away at its layers, indecisions, and imbalances during the bits of time I could snatch up amidst motherhood, major life transitions, and wading through survival mode. I only recently finally landed in a place where it feels complete and whole to me; which brought me some relief, believe it or not. And I’m excited to share it with you, finally. But with caution.
While the painting is exuberant, joyful, emotive, and exhilarating, it also emits a bit of the beautiful chaos that is a life lived constantly on the brink of collapse.
And with that, I introduce to you, Moments In Joy #1
